St. Joseph Hospice specializes in helping people to live their life to the fullest while giving aggressive comfort care during the end of life journey.

Usually, a family member serves as the primary caregiver and, when appropriate, helps make decisions for the terminally ill individual.  Members of the St. Joseph Hospice staff make regular visits to assess the patient and provide additional care or other services.  St. Joseph Hospice staff is on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The Hospice team develops a care plan that meets each patient's individual needs for pain management and symptom control.

The plan outlines the medical and support services required such as nursing care, personal care (dressing, bathing, etc.), social services, physician visits, counseling, and homemaker services.  It also identifies the medical equipment, tests, procedures, medication and treatments necessary to provide high-quality comfort care.

The St. Joseph Hospice team consists of:

The patient; patient's family, caregivers and physician; the St. Joseph Hospice Medical Director; registered and licensed practical nurses; certified nursing assistants; Master's Level Social Workers; Master's of Divinity Chaplain; Bereavement Coordinator; hospice-trained volunteers and our Volunteer Coordinator; and therapists (speech, physical, and occupational), as well as dietary consultant as needed.

Our administration and key staff remains "on-call" after the office has closed, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Why St. Joseph Hospice?

St. Joseph Hospice is a locally owned and operated hospice program with our staff having a combined hospice experience of over 50 years.

Nursing care is provided by experienced Registered Nurses with over 30 years hospice experience.

Our Social Worker is Master's level trained and has five years of hospice experience. She is also our Bereavement Coordinator.

Our Certified Nursing Assistants are the very best, with many years' experience in the care of the terminally ill.

Our Chaplain has a Master's of Divinity and has over 3 years of hospice experience with many years experience as a pastor.

Our Medical Director is certified by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He has over 8 years of hospice experience and is very involved with the patient's and their families.

St. Joseph Hospice has no “hard rules” governing admissions, such as outright bans on IV fluids, parenteral nutrition, transfusions, and PEG feedings. We do not require our patients to opt for DNR status. We diligently work with the patient and their care givers to ease their transition to comfort care, without forcing difficult decisions before their time.

Our Name: The name, St. Joseph Hospice, was chosen by our team because St. Joseph, tradition holds, died in the arms of his son, Jesus, and has been named the patron saint of a peaceful death and of hospice care.
